About Annette

Annette works from her studio in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she was born and has always lived. She has been a quilter for some years, and it was her need to obtain closely graded colours for her quilting materials which led her into hand-dyeing with fibre-reactive dyes. At first learning the exacting art of achieving precise colours and shades, she then began to work with other dyeing techniques; shibori, overdyeing, low-water immersion, direct painting and spraying, discharge dyeing and batik. It was in batik that she found a medium which she found endlessly exciting to explore, and although she often uses many other techniques in addition, this remains the main focus of her work at present.
